Asia-Pacific markets mostly rose Wednesday as investors digested U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff impact on regional economies.
In Japan, the Nikkei 225 index returned to trading after a Tuesday holiday, gaining 162.53 points, or 0.4%, to 38,863.70.
SoftBank Group’s third-quarter earnings fell short of analyst expectations as investments under its Vision Funds fell into the red. The company posted a surprise net loss of 369.17 billion yen ($2.4 billion), while LSEG had estimated a profit of 298.53 billion yen.
In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng index ballooned 563.06 points, or 2.6%, to 21,857.92.

The CSI 300 in mainland China recovered 36.72, or 1% to 3,919.86
In Taiwan, the Taiex index faltered 94.3 points, or 0.4%, to 23,289.75.
In Singapore, the Straits Times index regained 13.86 points, or 0.4%, to 3,874.62
In Korea, the Kospi index climbed 9.34 points, or 0.4%, to 2,548.39.
In New Zealand, the NZX 50 dropped 3.49 points, or 0.03%, to 12,913.95
In Australia, the ASX 200 vaulted 51.26 points, or 0.6%, to 8,535.26.
